The world needs

Food

With 40% of Canada’s arable land and 30% of the country’s agricultural biotech industry, Saskatchewan is an agricultural giant with a long tradition of innovation and expertise. As the world’s leading exporter of dry peas, lentils, durum, canola oil, canola meal, canary seed and oats, Saskatchewan farms pioneered zero till practices and continue to meet demand for food products with a minimal carbon footprint.

15.6 Million

tonnes of carbon annually sequestered, on average, by Saskatchewan farmers – more than any other province in Canada.

2.15 Million

tonnes of greenhouse gas were reduced by Saskatchewan growers in 2021 through growing pulse crops—which need less fertilizer and their root systems sequester carbon.

The world needs

Fuel

Saskatchewan produces some of the lowest carbon intensity energy and mining anywhere in the world. We’re a global leader in sustainable practices, such as using CCUS technologies. And, if all oil-producing countries in the world adopted environmental regulations similar to Saskatchewan’s, greenhouse gas emissions from oil production would be cut by 25%.

97 Million

Since 2015, Saskatchewan has reduced emissions by 60% from vented and flared gas an upstream oil facilities. That’s like planting 97 million trees and letting them grow for 10 years.
